Solar Gates

The new 40 watt Kyocera panel has now been installed at the site; replacing the two wimpy 5 watt panels previously attached to the fence post. The new panel has also been oriented to maximize output.

According to calculations, this solar panel should produce enough energy to provide for a minimum of 40-50 gate cycles per day, while maintaining full battery charge and stand-by power for the gate control board and all exit and safety devices.

The universal mounting bracket by Iron Ridge can be seen in this photo. This bracket is adjustable and was used to attach the solar panel to the 2-1/2" black pipe I had previously concreted into the ground. Unfortunately, the two manufacturers' (Iron Ridge and Kyocera) specifications didn't coinside as planned, necessitating the fabrication of an adapter bracket (the black piece between the silver bracket and the solar panel) in order to attach and center the solar panel correctly.
