Solar Powered Gate
A second NEMA rated battery enclosure has been attached and is housing an additional deep cycle marine battery. The second battery was wired in parallel, thereby doubling the capacity of the solar system's power supply, while maintaining the proper amperage and voltage.
Recall that the solar powered gate system the original gate installer provided (e.g. single battery and 1/4 the amount of solar power) was underpowered from the onset and began to fail more frequently as traffic to the facility increased. Now, the solar powered gate system should maintain enough reserve capacity to remain fully operational with up to 10 days of full cloud cover.
As you can see, there has been quite an improvement to the solar gate system; not only from an aesthetics and safety standpoint, but the solar gate system's functionality and reliability has been dramatically improved as well. Left to my own device, there are a few things that I would still improve upon (e.g. the way the original installer chose to "land" the wiring at the control box - very sloppy and vulnerable to outside elements - both natural and human). However, these particular upgrades would entail a partial excavation of the existing wiring below the control box and installing a "Christy" box with PVC sweeps and weather-tight fittings - probably outside of the owner's scope of work for the time being...
